Organizing your photos:

Depending on how you scrapbook will determine how you organize your photos. You may… scrapbook emotions and moments or you may… scrapbook events and time or… you may incorporate both.

Organizing your photos can be overwhelming, especially if you have years and years accumulated, however start small, start with one album or start with a subject matter. For example, if you want to make a book for your child, organize your photos by age/after school activity/education or other. If you are going to organize by age, what did he/she do when they were 5? Did he/she dance, play hockey, lose a tooth, get a fish, open presents at Christmas, paint eggs… the list goes on.

Label all the photos, describing the event (for journaling), the year and the names of individuals involved and place the photos along with any significant memorabilia (teeth/certificates) in an archival safe photo box.

If you are organizing photos by emotions, then consider labeling the photos using descriptive words and if you are organizing photos in terms of people then label and organize according to individual names.

However you decide to organize your photos do not forget to detail the 5 w’s on the back of the photos, especially the year and the names of individuals in the pictures. Although we all say, ‘I will never forget,’ when it comes down to it, we do. And if you are not scrapbooking the photos right away, you may feel deflated when it comes down to preserving your memories for all to enjoy. NEXT
